A Special Report on Recent Missions Developments
In Thomas Ramundo Ministries
As our ministry with its major emphasis on prayer has expanded and developed, sometime back Noni and I, practicing what we preach, decided to pray more about missions. Lo and behold, the more we prayed about missions, the more our interest in missions grew. And the more our interest grew, the more we read about what was happening with missions and missionaries. And the more we did that, the more we increased our giving to missions. And the more we prayed and gave, the more we felt led to go.
So, in the last year, Noni and I have been on missions trips to Thailand and Cambodia in Southeast Asia, as well as Togo and Malawi in Africa. Our hope is to continue to minister in other countries as the Lord opens doors, and as we did with the trips to Asia and Africa, paying the cost of our air fare and other travel expenses out of our own pocket. In fact, plans are in place for us to return to Malawi this October to teach once more at the Bible school there, Noni again teaching English and I will be teaching two Bible courses.
Another thing has happened as we have prayed for, given to, and participated in missions. We have prayed ourselves right into some special missions projects! One of the areas of missions the Lord has led us into we are calling, “Freedom for the Enslaved.” This initiative raises funds purchasing the freedom of slaves laboring in the harsh, hazardous brick kilns of Pakistan. In fact, our ministry recently paid the price of rescuing a couple who had been enslaved for 60 years! And as I write this, we are in the process of negotiating the purchase of a young man who was born into slavery. Right now, he is suffering wounds sustained when his owner caught him praying and beat him.
In addition to buying freedom for slaves, our ministry includes getting the liberated persons—whether they are single persons, a couple, or a family—into their own apartment and setting them up in a business so they can support themselves. To accomplish this, we work through a trusted national church leader in Pakistan. Donations of any amount toward this ministry are welcome, but for those who would like to consider sponsoring the entire cost of an individual’s or a family’s emancipation, please contact us. Sponsors will be given the names and a picture of those they set free.
Another missions ministry we are involved in we’ve named, “God’s Word for God’s World,” which recently provided more than 30 Bibles and textbooks for students at the Great Commission Bible School in Malawi. Recipients are students who do not have access to purchasing or cannot afford a Bible. Individuals who would like to contribute toward this effort may sponsor one or more Bibles at a cost of $10 per Bible. Again, contact us if you are interested. Your name will be inscribed on the presentation page of the Bible you donate as the benefactor of this treasured gift.
Our ministry is also directing a portion of honorariums, love offerings, and donations received from our speaking and prayer ministries toward these missions efforts.
I also value the opportunity to serve as the leader of a prayer team composed of individuals from all over the United States. We intercede individually and on monthly Zoom calls on behalf of Glenn and Wendy Lorenz, missionaries to West Africa.
Noni and I are constantly amazed at these ministry opportunities God has given us in these not-really-retirement years, and grateful for his many blessings along the way. Contributions to our prayer ministry, and the missions ministries that have grown out of it, are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. Simply designate what your donation is for. And since you know we pay our own way when we go on our missions trips, you know your gift is going entirely to the ministry itself.
Remember, all this began when we started seriously praying about missions. Corrie Ten Boom was right, then, when she said, “We never know how God will answer our prayers, but we can expect that He will get us involved in His plan for the answer. If we are true intercessors, we must be ready to take part in God’s work on behalf of the people for whom we pray.” To borrow from Jesus, who didn’t say it exactly this way, but—“Where your prayers are, there will your heart be also.”
